The Nexus Series #1: Startlight Mates by G. Bailey (2025 Reading Goal)

One thing's for sure, it feels so good to be reading again.

This is only the second book I’ve finished so far this year, but it feels like an achievement already. I’m bouncing between two to three books in my “currently reading” pile, and honestly? I don’t mind at all. I’m just happy to be enjoying my hobbies again with my free time.

This recent read of mine was a BookTok recommendation that popped up on my FYP—Starlight Mates by G. Bailey. This book is part of The Nexus Series, a dark romantasy filled with men who growl more than they speak. And that alone intrigued me, but the tropes? Absolutely sold me.

Expect to find:

  • Who did this to you?

  • Touch her and die

  • Rejected mates

  • Forced proximity

  • Whychoose?

I mean, how could I resist? I'm into dark, gripping fantasy romance with protective, brooding love interests and intense emotional stakes.

My Review: ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 rating

This one had a lot of potential with its world-building and used jargons. The universe felt decently-crafted, and I loved the thought put into the setting. However, the pacing of the story was too fast for my taste. The plot moved too quickly, leaving little time for me to truly understand the motivations behind the protagonist’s decisions. I wanted to spend more time with the characters and let their actions sink in, but instead, things felt rushed.

While the main character wasn’t whiny, there were moments where she seemed to ramble on repetitively, which made reading her chapters a bit exhausting. The same reasoning came up too often, and I started to lose interest. Despite this, I did manage to finish the book. I just couldn’t help but feel like there were so many missed opportunities to dive deeper into the plot and characters. With a slower pace and more room for development, this could have been a much more satisfying read.

So far, 2025 is shaping up to be a great reading year—not because of the number of books I’ve read, but because I’m finally making time for the stories I love.

See you in my next update.

xx

First month of 2025 is almost done...

Hi everyone, it’s  Rraine !  It feels like it’s been an eternity since I wrote a blog post. The nostalgia's unreal.  I used to love writing about my everyday adventures, but life got busy, and let’s be real—fancy blogging platforms aren’t exactly budget-friendly when you’re broke like me. For my website, I’ve been using  Carrd , which is super handy, but sadly, it doesn’t have a blog feature. So here I am, dipping my toes back into the blogging world, and it feels so good to be writing again. As the first month of 2025 wraps up, I can’t help but reflect on how fast it flew by.  What about you?  How has your January been?  Did it feel like a whirlwind or a slow start?  Did you experience anything new or surprising?   For me, it's been busy. A little messy but in the best way. Even though I’ve had a lot on my plate, I’ve been reminding myself that doing my best is enough. One of the highlights of my month was finally doing a proper  costri...

And the curiosity got the best of me so I got the War of Her Heart by Lexi Hodges.  Read the whole thing in a span of 24 hours. Lost me a couple hours of sleep for sure.  The book is said to be a Romantic Fantasy filled with forbidden love, plot twists, betrayal, banter, and a steamy love triangle. The rule is Every Sovereign must marry from the royal bloodlines of the Seven Sovereigns.
